ABOUT US
Dr. Pennye Stammer Doud
Dr. Doud, born in New Mexico, refers to herself as a "retired military brat". After living throughout the Southeast, she settled in Maryland and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Dr. Doud received her Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry, where she graduated with honors. At UHCO, she was elected to the Dean's List, was inducted into the Gold Key International Honor Society and the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society.

Dr Doud is an active member of the American Optometric Association, the Maryland Optometric Association and serves as secretary of the Anne Arundel Optometric Society. She is proud of her volunteer work within the community and currently serves as Chairperson of Central Elementary’s Beautification Committee, parent classroom volunteer and as a religious education catechist for Holy Family Church. Dr. Doud currently resides in Edgewater with her husband, Gregg and their two children, Abigail and Aidan. In between chauffeuring her children around, Dr. Doud enjoys gardening and traveling.
| Christine Brown – Office Manager / Optician
Christine has made AVC her home for over ten years. She has been in the optical field for over 13 years and is certified by the American Board of Opticianry and National Contact Lens Examiners. Christine’s dedication and genuine joy in working with people has made her a favorite among our patients . Whether it’s taking care of her pre-school son or caring for her patients, she puts her heart into everything that she does.

Sherry Blank – Assistant Office Manager / Optician
Sherry has been with the practice for over seven years and is also certified by the American Board of Opticianry. Our patients often make a special request for Sherry to help them in the optical boutique – she’s known for her calm, friendly manner and truly enjoys working with people. Sherry is always ready for an optical challenge!

Carlisa Gilmer – Lab Manager / Optician
Carlisa has over 17 years of experience in the optical industry. She is the next to the youngest of 12 children so she’s right at home in the hustle and bustle of our busy lab. Carlisa’s laugh and bubbly personality are contagious around the office and she loves to help patients whenever she can. She serves as Lay Pastor and Elder at the Rapture Church and enjoys spending time with her family, friends and two adorable grandsons, Nehemiah and Kylin.

Lorraine vomSaal – Optician
Lorraine divides her time between AVC and creating costumes for the Annapolis Opera. Lorraine has the sole distinction of being our first staff member and has been with AVC since it’s inception! Lorraine has a special eye for custom frame adjustments and trouble shooting – we all rely on her years of experience. Any spare time she has is spent playing tennis, traveling and enjoying her four grandchildren.

Alanna Knaus – Optometric Assistant
Alanna came to AVC after being in the medical field for over 6 years. She is skilled with computers and has many years of management experience and a thorough understanding of third party insurance plans. Alanna is energetic, has a great sense of humor and is always willing to go the extra mile to help a patient. Alanna and her daughter, Ashley, live in Anne Arundel County.

Kelly Renshaw – Optometric Assistant
Kelly, originally from the Eastern shore, is one of our newest staff members. She is hard working, fun loving and enjoys a good laugh. Kelly is currently working full time and attending college. In her down time you will find her playing with her puppy and cheering the Washington Capitals on.
