Protecting Your Sight at
Home, Work, & School
The key to protecting your sight is wearing proper safety equipment.
We proudly carry a variety of safety and sports eyeglasses, and we can recommend specific products based on your activity.
Whether it’s to protect your child while they’re playing their favorite sport or if you want to prevent flying particles from getting in your eyes while you’re at a hazardous job site, we can help by offering glasses right for your needs and lifestyle.
Know Your Emergencies
No matter what type of emergency occurs, we always recommend speaking with one of our team members.
Some eye injuries may not show serious symptoms, but they might become more severe in time. We can help determine how an injury affects the eye and manage any issues we detect during a visit to our office.
Our emergency care center is available 24/7. Please contact us immediately if you or someone you know experiences an emergency.
Physical Trauma
Physical trauma is any impact on the eye or surrounding area. One of the most common physical trauma symptoms is a black eye, but even light blows could lead to retinal detachment and permanent vision loss.
In these situations, place a cold compress over the area but do not apply pressure. Call our team immediately.
Chemical Exposure
If you’re working with chemicals at school, home, or work, please wear proper eye protection. Some of the most common chemicals that can harm your eyes include soaps, pesticides, cleaners, fertilizers, and disinfectants.
If a chemical gets into the eye, flush the eye out with cool, clean water, and call our team immediately.
Dust & Dirt Particles
Some particles like dust, dirt, and eyelashes can cause irritation, but they’re usually small enough that you may be able to wash them out of your eyes by blinking or using eye drops. In other cases, these particles can damage your cornea and irritate your eyes.
If blinking or eye drops aren’t washing out the particles, please contact our team as soon as you can.
Eye Disease Emergencies
If you risk developing glaucoma or age-related macular degeneration, you may have a higher risk of experiencing closed-angle glaucoma and wet age-related macular degeneration.
These diseases can develop rapidly, causing symptoms like eye pain and permanent vision loss. If you risk developing these issues and experience sudden vision and eye problems, please get in touch with us quickly.
Cuts, Punctures, & Scratches
Cuts, punctures, and scratches can cause serious eye damage and may lead to permanent vision loss. We recommend going straight to your nearest emergency room in these situations.
If someone nearby knows first aid, they may be able to manage the situation by placing a protective cover, like a paper cup, over top of the eye. Do not rinse the eye with water, add any pressure to the wound, or remove any objects possibly stuck in the eye.
We’re Ready to Preserve Your Vision
Contact our team immediately if you experience any eye emergency. We can help you manage the situation until a medical professional addresses the injury.
